Seriously…
How are we already halfway through the year?
It feels like we were just setting New Year’s goals, buying fresh planners, and saying, “This is going to be the year.”
And now somehow it’s summer.
Maybe you’re feeling really good about where things are.
If that’s you, celebrate that! Seriously.
But if you’re like a lot of the business owners we work with at Young Wealth Co., you might also be thinking…
“I really thought I’d be further along by now.”
Maybe revenue isn’t quite where you hoped it’d be.
You planned to save more, but life (and business) had other plans.
Maybe your bookkeeping has been sitting on your to-do list for… longer than you’d like to admit.
If any of that sounds familiar, I want you to know something.
You haven’t run out of time.
You’re not starting over.
You’re simply at the halfway point.
And six months is still plenty of time to make meaningful progress.
I don’t believe in guilt when it comes to money.
Awareness? Absolutely.
Guilt? Not so much.
Business is unpredictable.
Clients come and go.
Unexpected expenses happen.
Plans change.
That’s just part of being a business owner.
So instead of looking at everything that didn’t happen over the last six months, let’s look at what you can do from here.
Because doing a mid-year business review now could completely change what the rest of your year looks like.
I actually did this exercise myself recently.
I sat down with a cup of coffee, pulled up my numbers, and realized there were a few goals I was ahead on… and a few I’d honestly completely forgotten about.
It wasn’t discouraging.
If anything, it was a really good reminder that checking in doesn’t have to be scary. It simply gives you the chance to adjust before another six months flies by.
And that’s exactly what I want this post to be for you.
Not a reminder of everything you haven’t done.
Just an opportunity to pause, take an honest look at where things stand, and make a plan for where you want to go from here.
If you’re reading this thinking, “Okay… I probably need to sit down and do this too,” I made something that will help.
I put together The Young Wealth Co. Mid-Year Money Reset Guide that walks you through each of the steps we’re talking about in this post – from reviewing your bookkeeping and checking your savings goals to looking at your spending and planning for the rest of the year.
Think of it as your roadmap for getting back on track without feeling overwhelmed.

Before you start making new goals or changing your strategy, figure out where you actually stand.
Not just how much revenue you’ve brought in.
Look at the bigger picture.
How much profit have you made?
How much money is actually sitting in your business bank account?
Do you have unpaid invoices still waiting to come in?
Have you made any progress toward your savings goals?
Is there debt you’ve been meaning to pay down?
At Young Wealth Co., we always tell our clients that you can’t make confident financial decisions if you don’t know your starting point.
Your numbers aren’t there to make you feel bad.
They’re there to help you make better decisions moving forward.
This is one of my favorite little money exercises because it’s so simple.
Go back through the last month or two of your spending.
Not with the goal of cutting everything out.
Just… notice.
If you order groceries online, go back and look at your recent orders.
Sometimes seeing those totals all together is enough to make you think,
“Okay… I didn’t realize we were spending quite that much.”
The same thing applies in your business.
Look through your subscriptions.
Your software.
Memberships.
Any recurring monthly charges.
Ask yourself one simple question:
Am I still getting value from everything I’m paying for?
You might find a few things you can cancel without missing them at all.
One mistake I see a lot of people make is setting huge savings goals without a plan for how they’re actually going to get there.
Instead of saying,
“I’m going to save $10,000 this year,”
try asking yourself,
“What’s a number I know I can consistently set aside every week?”
Maybe that’s $25.
Or it’s $50.
Maybe it’s more.
Set up an automatic transfer into a high-yield savings account and let it happen in the background.
You don’t have to make one giant deposit for it to count.
Small deposits have a way of adding up faster than we expect.
The second half of the year deserves a little planning.
Nothing fancy.
Just enough to give yourself direction.
What’s already on your calendar?
Do you typically have slower months coming up?
Are there annual expenses you know are around the corner?
Are you planning any launches, travel, or big investments before the end of the year?
Forecasting isn’t about predicting exactly what’s going to happen.
It’s about making decisions with the information you have today instead of reacting when something catches you off guard.
I know the word “budget” isn’t everyone’s favorite.
So call it whatever you want.
A weekly spending plan.
A spending allowance.
A guideline.
The name doesn’t really matter.
What matters is giving yourself a realistic number to work within each week.
It takes away so much of the mental back-and-forth of wondering,
“Should I buy this?”
Because you’ve already made the decision ahead of time.
Maybe you’ve hit every goal you set back in January.
Maybe you’ve missed more than you’d like.
Or maybe your goals have changed completely because your business has changed.
That’s okay.
Businesses evolve.
Life happens.
The important thing isn’t what the first six months looked like.
It’s what you choose to do with the next six.
One small decision today can have a much bigger impact than waiting until January to start over.
You don’t need to change everything this week.
Pick one thing.
Set up an automatic transfer to savings.
Review your subscriptions.
Finally catch up on your bookkeeping.
Small, consistent habits almost always win over big plans that never get started.
